Rotterdam pools
Rotterdam has two swimming pools. There is the midship Lido Pool which has a retractable roof, as well as the aft Sea View Pool which is open to the elements.
The Lido Pool is more popular with families and children. There are water features and lots of room for the kids to play. Parents can relax on sun loungers and there are daybeds upstairs with views across the pool and out to sea.
However, it’s worth noting that when the retractable roof is closed the smell of chlorine can be strong.
On the other hand, the Seaview Pool enjoys gentle ocean breezes. It has spectacular views and is surrounded by sun loungers. It also has two heated whirlpool tubs.
During my sailing neither of the Rotterdam pools had an adults only policy. It’s also worth noting that on sea days both swimming pools tend to be very crowded.
The Retreat on Rotterdam
The Retreat on Rotterdam is an exclusive, pay-per-entry deck space with cabanas, sun loungers and enhanced service. It’s ideal for guests who prefer a quieter, more luxurious place to relax.
There are 22 private cabanas, some with ocean views and others overlooking the pool deck below. Also there is a large heated whirlpool, shared lounge chairs and sun beds.
The Retreat has dedicated staff as well as an exclusive snack and bar list. Indeed breakfast, lunch and snacks can all be ordered in the Retreat, including items from the New York Deli & Pizza restaurant.
A day in the Retreat includes these extra perks:
- A glass of sparkling wine.
- Chocolate dipped strawberries and frozen grapes in the late afternoon.
- Towel and bathrobes.
- Handheld fans.
- Water mister.
- Chilled bottled water setup.
- Fruit basket.
- Breakfast and lunch options.
- Ice Cream and condiments in the early afternoon.
- 20% saving on Signature services from the Greenhouse Spa & Salon (port days only).
It’s worth noting that some cabanas are larger than others. These larger cabanas are known as ‘family cabanas’. They are 50% bigger, with space for a table and chairs as well as loungers.
A regular cabana in the Retreat costs USD85 on sea days, or USD55 on port days. A 7-day Retreat cabana package costs USD399. Family cabanas cost USD125 on sea days, or USD75 on port days.
Rotterdam gym
Rotterdam has a large and well equipped gym with sweeping views across the bow. There are treadmills, bikes and elliptical trainers as well as free-weights and weight machines.
The gym also has a space for yoga, pilates, aerobics and stretch. Personal trainers are available for an hourly or daily fee.
The Rotetrdam jogging track and sports courts
Rotterdam has a great jogging track on the top deck. Twelve laps around is 1.6km / 1.0mi. As a courtesy to others, walkers should use the inside track while joggers use the outside.
There is also an open air basketball court and outdoor fitness machines on Rotterdam. Not to mention numerous shuffleboard courts.
The Greenhouse Spa & Salon on Rotterdam
The Greenhouse Spa & Salon offers a range of wellness and beauty treatments. Indeed, it is a haven of serenity with relaxation rooms and saunas.
There are facial treatments that boast premium, naturally sourced ingredients. In addition, there is a range of massage therapies designed to ease tired muscles and encourage a sense of calm. Also, there is a thalassotherapy pool for post-treatment relaxation.
In addition, Rotterdam has a full service salon for hair and nails. Plus, there is a barber shop for men’s grooming needs.
