March is the time of year when the cruise lines want to move their ships from the Caribbean to Europe for the Mediterranean summer and this means there are some super cheap Atlantic crossings available.

Trans-Atlantic cruise deals from US$50 per night

When we say cheap, we really mean it! CruiseOyster have found deals from as little as US$50 per night for a 14-day voyage. From budget to luxury lines, they all have great deals on offer – usually 50% less than you’d pay for a similar duration, multi-port voyage.

As we’ve previously reported, these cheap Atlantic crossings are known as ‘repositioning voyages’ and we’ve found some of the best on offer this season.

Top offer

Holland America have the best deals. Their 14-night Eurodam crossing from Fort Lauderdale to Barcelona has inside staterooms starting from an incredibly low US$699 p.p. (US$50 per night) and balcony staterooms are going for only US$999 p.p. (US$71 per night). At these prices you could afford to indulge and book a suite at just US$2,499 p.p. Unlike many other crossings there are no port calls mid-Atlantic, which means you’ll have 8 sea days from Fort Lauderdale to Funchal (Portugal), but if you like sea days this could be the perfect cruise for you!

Cheap luxury

Considerably more expensive, but still great value, luxury line Crystal Cruises are offering a 16-night voyage departing 25 March from Miami to Monte Carlo on the Crystal Symphony for US$3,465 p.p. (US$217 per night) in a balcony room. The cruise calls at Bermuda in the mid-Atlantic, Ponta Delgada (Portugal), Barcelona (Spain) and Bandol (France). The longest stretch at sea is 4-days between Bermuda and Ponta Delgada. All meals, wines, spirits and beer are included. By way of comparison a Crystal Cruise of similar duration in Europe would set you back at least US$6,475 p.p.

Best itinerary

For something a little different MSC are offering an 18 day transatlantic crossing on the MSC Magnifica from Santos (Brazil) to Venice (Italy) departing 6 March 2016. It includes some great ports, like Rio De Janeiro, Salvador, Santa Cruz De Tenerife, Valetta, Corfu and Dubrovnik. Prices start from a very cheap US$1,659 (US$93 per night) for an inside room and US$2,139 p.p. (US$119 per night) for a balcony room. Great value!

Cheap and small

If small ships are more your style then Silversea’s crossing on the Silver Wind might be for you. Departing Fort Lauderdale on 28 March for a 16-night voyage to Barcelona (Spain), prices for this top-end, all inclusive cruise start from US$4350 (US$272 per night) for a Vista Suite. The Silver Wind offers exceptional dining experiences in its two specialty restaurants, La Terrazza and Le Champagne. The voyage includes 8-days at sea.

Cheap and boutique

Boutique cruise line Azamara Club Cruises will be one of the last to make the crossing from the Americas to Europe. The Azamara Journey is set to depart Fort Lauderdale for Nice (France) on 5 April. Inside staterooms for the 16-day Atlantic crossing start at US$3,049 p.p. (US$119 per day). Balcony staterooms start at US$5,249 p.p (US$328 per night). The staterooms on Azamara ships are small by current standards so we recommend a room with a balcony so get more space.

Get more than just cheap Atlantic crossings

There’s an added bonus to taking these cheap Atlantic crossings and it’s not just spending time in Europe at the end of your cruise. When it comes time to buy an airfare you only need to get a one-way ticket. Many carriers will sell a one-way fare at about 50% the price of a return which means you save even more.

If you enjoy endless days at sea and saving money then we recommend a repositioning cruise across the Atlantic this March. The hardest decision will be choosing which one to take!
