In a move that will be universally welcomed by cruisers, luxury small-ship operator Silversea have announce a free WiFi policy for all guests on all their ships, including expedition voyages.

From January 2016 access to WiFi will be available free of charge from all suites and public areas regardless of the room category booked. Every guest will enjoy at least one hour of free WiFi per day. That should be ample time to check emails or post to social media.

Unlimited free Silversea WiFi will be available to guests sailing in the Owner’s, Grand, Royal, Silver and Medallion suites on the line’s ocean ships. On expedition ships guests sailing in Owner’s, Grand, Silver, Medallion, and Expedition suites on the Silver Explorer will enjoy unlimited free WiFi, as will guests in Silver, Deluxe Veranda, and Veranda suites on the Silver Galapagos, and guests in Medallion, Veranda, and Vista suites on the Silver Discoverer.

The free Wifi policy is unprecedented in the industry where prices for internet access have commonly ranged from US$0.40 to more than US$1.00 per minute. we believe Silversea’s free WiFi policy will force a shake up of fees and charges for internet access across the industry. Good news for travellers!
