A milestone moment for Crystal and its loyal guests
The ceremonial steel cutting of Crystal Grace took place this week at the Fincantieri shipyard in Marghera, Italy—a moment that carries real significance for the brand and for the guests who have been watching this new chapter unfold. While a steel cutting may sound like an industrial formality, in shipbuilding it marks the true beginning: the moment a vessel transitions from design and intention into physical form.
What the milestone means
For Crystal, the ceremony represents more than construction progress. It signals confidence—in the brand’s direction, in its partnership with Fincantieri, and in a vision of luxury ocean travel that the line has been carefully refining since its relaunch under AKTG (Abercrombie & Kent Travel Group) in 2022. Crystal Grace is scheduled for delivery in May 2028, with her inaugural voyage departing Civitavecchia (Rome) on June 11, 2028, for an eight-night journey concluding in Fusina (Venice).
“As we look to the future, we are focused on creating ships that feel both deeply rooted in Crystal’s heritage and unmistakably modern, where space, service and experience come together in a way that is both intuitive and extraordinary.”
Cristina Levis, CEO of AKTG

The Fincantieri factor
Crystal’s relationship with Fincantieri—one of the world’s most respected shipbuilders—is central to the story of Crystal Grace. The Italian yard has long been a trusted collaborator for luxury and ultra-luxury cruise brands, and its involvement here speaks to the level of craftsmanship Crystal is pursuing with this build.
What to expect aboard Crystal Grace
Details confirmed so far paint a picture of a ship designed to push Crystal’s already-high benchmark further. Guests can expect expansive suites throughout—including the brand’s first-ever Owner’s Suite—alongside a culinary program that brings together some of the most acclaimed names in gastronomy. Chef Nobu Matsuhisa, three-time Michelin-starred chef Massimiliano Alajmo and his brother Raffaele, and restaurateur Riccardo Giraudi are all expected to have a presence onboard, continuing the celebrated dining partnerships that have become a signature of the Crystal experience.
The ship will also offer Broadway-style entertainment and what the brand describes as one of the best staff-to-guest and space-to-guest ratios in the luxury segment—a claim that, if it holds, would place Crystal Grace among the most generously appointed vessels at sea.
Watching the build
For Crystal loyalists, the next two years offer a compelling narrative to follow. The Marghera shipyard is now actively at work, and between now and the May 2028 delivery, milestones including the keel laying and float-out will each mark another stage of progress.
