The cruise line’s innovative Atlas Adventurer combines cutting-edge sustainable technology with refined comfort for discerning explorers

Where wind meets wonder

There’s something profoundly romantic about sailing – the whisper of wind filling canvas, the silent glide across open water, the sense of moving with nature rather than against it. Now, Atlas Ocean Voyages is reimagining that maritime tradition for the modern luxury expedition traveler with Atlas Adventurer, the line’s first purpose-built sailing yacht scheduled to debut in late 2028.

This isn’t your grandfather’s tall ship, nor is it merely a motor yacht with decorative masts. The 690-foot vessel represents a sophisticated fusion of 15th-century wind mastery and 21st-century innovation, equipped with three soaring carbon fiber masts and solid sails that work in concert with hybrid electric propulsion. When conditions allow, the yacht can cruise in near-silence with zero emissions – a compelling proposition for travelers who value both environmental responsibility and the immersive quality of quiet exploration.

“This new Atlas-class sailing yacht represents the next step in our growth. It allows us to expand our destination footprint into regions our guests have been asking us for, while further solidifying Atlas’ position within the luxury expedition cruise category.”

Engineering elegance

Atlas Adventurer’s technical specifications read like a wishlist for serious expedition cruising enthusiasts. The 26,000-gross-ton yacht features dual-fuel engines and electric-hybrid propulsion paired with a substantial 9-megawatt battery system – enough power to maintain impressive speeds even when winds prove fickle. Ice Class 1B certification opens polar possibilities, while the reinforced hull and advanced stabilization systems promise smooth sailing across diverse waters from tropical archipelagos to remote polar regions.

The yacht will accommodate 400 guests attended by 275 crew members – a significant expansion from Atlas’s existing World-class vessels, which carry a maximum of 198 passengers. Yet this growth remains measured: Atlas Adventurer will still be considerably smaller than most new-build luxury vessels entering the market, preserving the intimate atmosphere that small-ship devotees seek while enabling enhanced amenities and greater operational range. Every stateroom across all categories will be a suite – a notable commitment to space and comfort that underscores the line’s boutique positioning.

A floating sanctuary for curious souls

Beyond the technical prowess lies an expanded world of onboard refinement. The leap from two dining venues on current Atlas vessels to seven aboard Atlas Adventurer signals a dramatic evolution in culinary offerings. Specialty restaurants will complement main dining, while an innovative culinary studio provides hands-on cooking experiences inspired by destinations visited. Five distinct lounges and cocktail bars, plus two outdoor bar areas, create intimate social spaces that never feel crowded – a precious commodity in cruise travel.

The wellness offerings expand significantly with an enhanced fitness center, generous swimming pool, and dedicated spaces for restoration and reflection. For those drawn to active exploration, the yacht comes equipped with Zodiacs, luxury motorboats, and a marina platform featuring an ocean pool for water-based adventures in remote anchorages.

Charting unexplored territories

The vessel’s maiden seasons will focus on two regions that represent significant expansion for Atlas Ocean Voyages: Asia and Africa. Itineraries will weave through Japan, South Korea, China, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines, alongside African adventures encompassing the Seychelles, Madagascar, Tanzania, Kenya, Mozambique, and South Africa.

These are destinations where Atlas Adventurer’s unique capabilities – particularly its ability to access small, restricted ports while operating silently – create genuine advantages. Mario Ferreira, Chairman and Founder of parent company Mystic Invest Holding, emphasized this strategic positioning.

“The yacht is designed to comply with future zero-emission port regulations and can navigate silently, allowing access to some of the most exclusive and restricted small ports around the world.”

Securing your passage

Atlas Ocean Voyages has opened early access reservations with a USD2,000 deposit, allowing discerning adventurers to secure their place on inaugural season voyages. As specific suite designs, detailed itineraries, and onboard programming are unveiled in coming months, early registrants will receive priority updates.

For small-ship cruise enthusiasts seeking sustainable exploration without compromising on luxury, Atlas Adventurer represents an intriguing evolution – proof that the future of expedition cruising can honor maritime heritage while embracing environmental innovation.
