Self-service laundry facilities
Before booking a laundry package, it’s important to know which Holland America ships offer self-service laundry facilities.
Important Update (May 2025): Following fleet changes, only the Maasdam currently offers self-service laundry facilities. These include coin-operated washers and dryers, with complimentary irons and ironing boards.
All other vessels in the Holland America Line fleet, including the newest ships like Rotterdam and Nieuw Statendam, do not have self-service laundry facilities. For these ships, you’ll need to use one of the laundry services or packages described below.
HAL laundry package options
Holland America offers several laundry package options to suit different needs and cruise durations. These represent excellent value compared to per-item pricing.
Laundry by the bag
Price: US$35 per bag
This option allows you to fill a standard-sized blue laundry bag with as many items as will fit.
What’s included: Regular laundry service only (washing, drying, and basic pressing) What’s excluded: Eco-friendly dry cleaning items Processing time: 48 hours
Estimated capacity: A standard bag can typically hold:
- 5-6 t-shirts/polo shirts
- 3-4 pairs of shorts/pants
- 7-8 pieces of underwear
- 5-6 pairs of socks
- OR a combination of similar-sized items
Unlimited laundry & pressing
This comprehensive package covers all your regular laundry needs throughout your cruise. Items are washed, dried, and pressed.

For Grand Voyages and World Cruises (35+ days), Holland America sometimes offers special promotional rates. For example, recent cruisers have reported special package pricing of approximately $262.50-322 for unlimited laundry on 35-43 day cruises.

Pre-cruise booking (recommended)
The most convenient way to book laundry packages is before your cruise:
- Visit the Holland America website
- Log in to your My Account
- Go to your cruise booking
- Navigate to the “Packages” category
- Select your preferred laundry package
- Complete your purchase
Pro Tip: Pre-booking often ensures availability, especially during peak season sailings.
Onboard booking
If you prefer to decide once on board:
- Speak with your stateroom steward within the first 48 hours of your cruise
- Visit the Front Office/Guest Services desk
- Book through the Navigator App (available on newer ships)

- Four-Star Mariners: Complimentary laundry and pressing services (excluding express service and eco-friendly dry cleaning)
- Five-Star Mariners: Complimentary laundry and pressing services plus priority processing
Neptune & Pinnacle Suite Guests: Complimentary laundry service is included with your suite booking.
Insider tips for HAL laundry services
Maximizing your laundry package
- Submit laundry early in the morning (before 8:00 AM) to ensure it’s processed that day
- Spread out your laundry throughout the cruise rather than submitting everything at once
- For the “Laundry By The Bag” option, roll clothing instead of folding to fit more items
Money-saving strategies
- For cruises 7 days or shorter, the “Laundry By The Bag” option is usually most economical
- For cruises 10+ days, the Unlimited Laundry package typically offers better value
- If traveling with family in the same stateroom, remember packages cover all occupants of the room

Can we get laundry done and hung to dry. I don’t put anything in the dryer because of shrinkage.

You would need to talk with your stateroom attendant about any specific laundry handling requests.

Thank you for your question. The standard Holland America Line Unlimited Laundry packages include 7, 10, 12 and 14 day options. However, they all cost USD 9 per day. So expect to pay USD 207 for a 23 day voyage.

I have a travel steamer, am I allowed to bring it or do you have irons in the staterooms?

Thank you for your question. Some Holland America Line ships do have laundry rooms, however others do not. Laundry rooms will be noted on deck plans. HAL do offer laundry packages (as detailed on this page).
The cruise line do not allow irons to be used in their staterooms or suites as they are a fire hazard.

Thank you for visiting The Luxury Cruise Review, and also for your question. We have a similar question here which we are awaiting clarification on from HAL. That said, the 7 and 14-day laundry packages are both priced at USD 9 per day. So based on that a 30-day launrdy package would cost USD 270.

We will be on the Nieuw Statendam for 15 days in spring. We plan to travel around Greece for 10 days before joining this ship in Rome. We will need to do a load possibly two by the time we get on the ship. How much does it cost ? Do you do per bag or per item ?
Will HAL iron my suit if I purchase the unlimited laundry package or do I need to purchase the pressing package in addition?
*I see that they press the laundry before returning but, I wouldn’t need my suit washed. Just pressed.

Thank you for your question. I’d advise checking with your stateroom steward once on baord. If pressing is not included they will charge a nominal fee. When I sailed with HAL last year the fee for pressing a 2-piece suit was USD 5.50

Thank you for your question. In my experience on HAL the Launrdy Package is based on the duration of your cruise. In other words, you can not use a 7 day package across 7 different dates on a 30 day cruise.

can you tell me how you book the Laundry Package, can it be done in advance or is it only bookable once on board. I have spoken to my Travel agent who have contacted HAL UK and i was told HAL dont know anything about packages as prices are in the cabin
