The Queen Elizabeth Queen’s Grill Restaurant is one of the best restaurants at sea. In fact it reminds me of Simpson’s in the Strand, with a classic English decor and an exceptional menu.

The Queen’s Grill menu is traditional yet sublime. It does not have fussy nouvelle cuisine, rather the menu has exceptionally prepared classics and it changes daily. However, there are dishes which are available all the time. In fact, guest can even order off-menu. The chefs can prepare almost anything your heart desires, simply let the maître d’ know what you’d like in advance (usually during lunch time for dinner orders).

One of the most popular dishes on the Queen’s Grill menu is the whole Duck L Orange which is carved table-side, then flambéd in Grand Marnier sauce. I think it is the perfect size for two.

The Queen’s Grill menu also has delicacies like White Sturgeon Caviar with traditional condiments as well as a delightful Mackerel Pate. The English-style Rack of Lamb was also excellent. The chefs simply roast it with herbs so the sweet lamb flavour shines through. The dish comes with a light gravy and mint jelly.

Another popular dish is the Crepe Suzette. This dessert is an off-menu item, but all the Cunard regulars know about it. Your waiter flambés the crepes tabled-side and then serves them with homemade vanilla ice cream. It’s a nostalgic throwback to the 1980s which I adored. Also, there is a sublime Lemon & Lavender Cake with Clotted Cream – it’s not to be missed.

It’s worth noting that you will be assigned a table for the duration of your voyage. However, if you are unhappy with where they place you, simply alert the maître d’ who will do his best to find an alternate location.

It’s worth remembering that you can also dine al fresco in the courtyard (weather permitting).

Breakfast: 7:30am – 9:00am.
Lunch: 12:30pm – 2:00pm.
Dinner: 6:30pm – 9:00pm.

Other dining options

In addition to the Queen’s Grill Restaurant, there are five other dining venues. See my review of all these Queen Elizabeth restaurants here.

The Steakhouse at The Verandah is the other fine dining restaurant, but it’s worth noting that it costs extra to eat there. The other restaurants are not as good. Indeed, it’s fair to say they don’t meet the dining standards expected by most luxury cruisers. There is the sprawling Lido buffet as well as the Garden Lounge and the Golden Lion Pub.

If you are dining is the Queen’s Grill is it worth paying the extra to eat in the Verandah steakhouse one evening?

      Dear Mark

Thanks for your question – it is a good one. In my opinion the answer is ‘no’. The food served in The Steakhouse at The Verandah is good, but not as good as that served in the Queen’s Grill Restaurant. Indeed, I rate the Queen’s Grill Restaurant as one of the best dining venues at sea. That said, if you are on a long cruise you might like to visit The Steakhouse at The Verandah for the sake of variety.

      I hope this helps.

      Kind regards
