John's l'Austral cruise review
We’ve done lots of cruises before, but mostly on the bigger ships. The difference between these and Ponant is huge.
l’Austral is a beautiful ship inside and out. It’s really quite like a great big yacht. The interior design is very modern with a French flair which we liked a lot.
Ponant is all inclusive which means quality wines and Champagne is available free. This was great. The food on l’Austral was amazing also. There are 2 restaurants – one buffet style on the top deck and an up market French restaurant on deck 2. The food in the French restaurant is some of the best that my wife and I have ever eaten.
The service on board was also very good and the bi-lingual staff were always pleasant and efficient.
l’Austral is an expedition ship and offers inclusive zodiac expeditions every day. We did a number of these and were impressed with the expertise of the team leaders. They were very knowledgable and we learned a lot – plus had a fantastic time!
But on some days we did nothing and just lay around the rear-facing pool. This turned into one of our favourite places on the ship!
l’Austral was the smallest ship we’ve been on and we loved it. We would sail on them again for sure.
